The Cocoon
We brought cocoons home from Murshidabad. We tried sericulture. The Bombyx moths came out, laid eggs, but we had to leave for another journey. They did not survive. We learned.
The Shuttle
A weaver in Shantipur gave us a shuttle — the piece that passes between the warp threads. We keep it in our store.
From Thread to Kora
Cocoon becomes thread. Thread becomes kora — raw, undyed fabric. Kora is dyed, then woven into the saree you wear.
